The communion is observed was instituted by YSHUA with His disciples. It is in fact, a mirror of a Passover meal. YSHUA explained what was about to happen to Him using the symbols of Passover that have been celebrated now for about 3500 years.
Grape juice should be served four times during the Passover meal. According to tradition, the four cups represent four expressions or the process of redemption. The first cup is called the cup of sanctification; the second is the cup of Instruction; the third is the cup of redemption; and the fourth is the cup of the kingdom/praise.
The bread we receive is the matzah used in Passover that is broken and without leaven/sin. It represents YSHUA’s body, broken for our healing and wholeness. YSHUA said, at this point: “Take and eat; this is My body” [Matthew 26:26].
4 Steps to Salvation
(1) Admit that you are a sinner. (2) Repent of your sins. (3) Believe that YSHUA died for your sins. (4) Go to YHWH in prayer, pray for pardon and invite YSHUA into your life as your savior and Master.
The Four Cups of the Seder/The 4 Cups of Communion
1) Admit that you are a sinner/ Recognize you are a slave (The First Cup: Rescue/Sanctification/Set Apart)
The First Cup: Rescue/Sanctification/Set Apart–“I will take you out of Egypt.”
Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” The Lost sheep of the House of Israel, or today called the Gentiles who accept Messiah as Savior
These are taken in remembrance of promises made by YHWH to His people in Exodus 6:6-7:6 “Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am YHWH, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as my own people, and I will be your Elohim. Then you will know that I am YHWH your Elohim, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.”
For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to YHWH, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of Elohim is eternal life through YSHUA Messiah our Master.
Romans 6:20-23
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
John 8:36
2) Repent of your sins/Recognize what sin is – INSTRUCTION Cup 2, Sinai, YHWH’s law
What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, “YOU SHALL NOT COVET.”
Romans 7:7
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
1 John 3:4
The Second Cup: Deliverance/Instruction–“I will deliver you from (Egyptian) slavery.”
YHWH takes “Egypt out of them”—teaching them to think and live like free people instead of slaves ruled by a master. Jesus: Matthew 5:17 “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.
(3) Believe that YSHUA died for your sins/Redemption Cup 3 Partaking of His very essence
The Third Cup: Redemption: “I will redeem you with My power.”
John 1:12-13 “But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of YHWH. 13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from YHWH.”
Tradition says that when Jesus said “This cup is the new covenant in my blood which is poured out for you,” He was referring to the 3rd cup of the Passover, the Cup of Redemption. By His shed blood we can be redeemed from our bondage to sin, just as the Israelites were redeemed from their bondage to Egypt. He then said He wouldn’t drink wine again until the Kingdom had come.
But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Matthew 15:24
Remember that at that time ye were without Messiah, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Messiah YSHUA, ye who once were far off have been brought nigh by the blood of Christ.
Eph 2:11-12
Beleived to be the communion (3rd) cup, the third cup that YSHUA Raised as follows –
Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
1 Corinthians 11:28 ESV
For I received from the Master what I also delivered to you, that the Master YSHUA on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim Messiah’s death until he comes.
1 Corinthians 11:23-26
(4) Go to YHWH in prayer, pray for pardon and invite YSHUA into your life as your savior and Master – The Fourth Cup: Restoration, or Completion, or Acceptance, also PRAISE HALLEL:
The Fourth Cup: Restoration, or Completion, or Acceptance, PRAISE HALLEL: “I will acquire you as My people and I will be your Elohim.”
John 19:28-30 “Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled,
YSHUA said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to YSHUA’s lips. When he had received the drink, YSHUA said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”
He had given His body and shed His blood. Phase one of the Kingdom, allowing us to receive a full pardon for our sins, had come. To fulfill the Scriptures, He took a final drink of wine. It represented the 4th Cup of the Passover, the Cup of Acceptance. It’s as if He was saying to all who would believe in Him, “I will take you as my people and I will be your Elohim.”
The 4th cup is also called the Hallel Cup Because we GIVE PRAISE—the Highest Praise Cup—a celebration cup, a time to rejoice cup, the Kingdom Party Cup. Psalms-113-118 – Hallel Psalms
John 1:14, 16 (MESSAGE) The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish…We all live off his generous bounty, gift after gift after gift…all this came through YSHUA, the Messiah.”
For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son…
Col 1:13
What shall I render to YHWH For all His benefits toward me? I shall lift up the cup of salvation And call upon the name of YHWH.
Ps. 116:12-13 (NASB)
Cup of Elijah the Prophet/ Learning our Ministry Mantle
- Explain the Elijah Mission in the latter days
“Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
Malachi 4:4-6
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of YHWH
: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.“ –
“The rabbis teach that Elijah will appear at some point in time (either three days or three years) before the advent of the Messiah. They anticipate that he will appear in Palestine and utter a lament over the devastation of the Holy Land. After Michael the Archangel blows his trumpet, Elijah will introduce the Messiah to the world. The Talmud claims that several wonders will accompany the coming of Elijah and the Messiah: (1) He will bring Moses back to life. (2) He will reveal the secret location of the three holy vessels that mysteriously disappeared: the Ark of the Covenant, the Flask of Manna and the container of sacred anointing oil. (3) He will carry the royal scepter of Judah which YHWH promised ‘shall not depart from Judah. . .until Shiloh come’ (Gen: 49:10). (4) He will transform the geography of the Holy Land, leveling the mountains.
Christians who understand the cyclical nature of the prophecies, understand that the Elijah figure in the latter days will be a witness to the Messiah’s coming in a pattern not ulike that given during the ministry of John the Baptist. This Viewpoint is taken from an understanding of Revelations Chapter 11
Messiah had something interesting to say about Elijah and His ministry
And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
Mat 17:9-13
John fails to recognize that he is Elijah the Prophet
And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
John 1:19-28
And they which were sent were of the Pharisees. And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Messiah, nor Elijah, neither that prophet? John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose. These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
John falters in faith regarding the Lamb of Yah he prophecied over YSHUA. A Connection to the sign-marks of the true Elijah figure to come.
And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to YSHUA, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight. Then YSHUA answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
Luke 7 19:23
These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the MASTER of the earth. And if anyone would harm them, fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes. If anyone would harm them, this is how he is doomed to be killed. They have the power to shut the sky, that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they desire.
Revelation 11:4-6
Did John the Baptist recognize his mantle that was upon him?
The Talmidim clear understanding of YSHUA’s words means that the prophecy concerning the coming of Elijah was not to be taken literally. Rather it would be fulfilled ‘spiritually’ … But what does that mean? The prophecy in Malachi isn’t telling us that literal Elijah would return to earth. It is telling us (confirmed by Jesus) that someone would come in the ‘spirit of Elijah’. In other words, they would come with the same mind and character of Elijah to warn the people of their sins. To turn the people to God and PREPARE them for the soon coming of the Lord Jesus. So the prophecy would be fulfilled in a spiritual way, rather than in a literal sense.
What of John the Baptists birth?
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. And they were both righteous before YHWH, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of YHWH blameless. And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years. And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before YHWH in the order of his course, According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Master. And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.
Luke 1:5-17
And there appeared unto him an angel of the MASTER standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
For he shall be great in the sight of the MASTER, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Set-Apart Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Master their ELOHIM. And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for YHWH.
