Vayigash

This portion of the Torah called Vayigash tells the story of Judah approaching Joseph to plead for the release of Benjamin. Judah had promised his father that he would take responsibility for bringing Benjamin home safely. The portion also includes the reconciliation of Joseph and his brothers, and the migration of Jacob’s family to Egypt.
The verb nagash (נָגַשׁ) means “to approach, draw near, to join”. It is used in the Torah in various ways, including in the story of Abraham interceding with the Angel of the LORD, and in the story of Jacob kissing his father Isaac.
